Early life

José Ángel López (born January 12, 1977) is a Puerto Rican singer, songwriter and record producer known by his stage name Daddy Yankee. Starting out as part of the duo Hectic in the 1990s, he began a solo career on top of continuing with Hectic during the early 2000s.

 Growing up in a low-income family, Daddy Yank ee pursued a career as a mechanic. At age 14, he began to write songs while working, later turning to record producing and then recording demo tapes to be played on local radio stations. His first hit was Dembótelo in 1996. Daddy Yankee was born Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on July 3, 1977. In 2003, Daddy Yankee released his third album El Cartel: The Big Boss, which was a huge hit and made him a superstar in Latin America. He then went on to release Barrio Fino in 2004. The album was an even bigger success and reached number 1 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart for three consecutive weeks. A few months after the release of his album, he released Vuelve in 2005.
