Stevens Institute of Technology (SIT) is an independent, co-educational technological university located in Hoboken, New Jersey, just across the Hudson River from New York City. Stevens was chartered in 1870 and the school opened in 1871 with an initial class of 35 students who were taught by a single professor in the Odd Fellows Hall on Washington Street near Third Street.

For the 2013-2014 academic year, Stevens' teams competed in: NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Men's and Women's Soccer, Men's Volleyball. The school competes in the following conferences: Skyline Conference for men and women in basketball and volleyball; Middle Atlantic Conferences (MAC) for men and women in soccer.

 In total, Stevens' varsity athletic teams have won 16 National Championships: men's volleyball (NCAA Division III, 1997); baseball (NCAA Division III, 2009); men's swimming and diving (Division IIIA) in 1999; softball (NCAA Division III) in 2003 and 2004. 

Stevens also has a long history of high achievement at the regional level, with several titles to its credit including: men's tennis MAC regular season champions 2013; women's cross country MAC conference champions 2013; field hockey Skyline conference champions 2013; women's lacrosse Skyline conference tournament champions 2013.
